Spring 2022 at Goddard House!
On Saturday, May 14, we had the privilege of giving our second performance of the season to the lovely residents of Goddard House Assisted Living in Brookline! Our first performance was also at Goddard House on Saturday, April 16.
To kick off the concert, oboists Nia Suresh, Hannah Chun, and Kristen played the first and second movements of Beethoven Oboe Trio, op. 87. The audience loved the chamber music aspect and hearing the changing tempos of the movements, from the lively first movement to the calmer second movement.
The rest of the performance showcased our musician’s wonderful solo talents. Lia Suk, flute, performed the virtuosic first movement of the Nielsen Flute Concerto. “One of the residents told me “good job!” after my piece,” Lia told me, “and that was really amazing!”
Nia, Kristen, and Hannah performed three gems of the oboe solo repertoire next: Nia played Arethusa from Britten’s Six Metamorphoses After Ovid, Kristen played Schumann’s Romance No. 2, and Hannah played the melancholy second movement of the Marcello Oboe Concerto in C minor. The residents loved each oboist’s piece, nodding their heads along and smiling as the musicians introduced their performances.
Finally, our multitalented Nia closed off the performance with Chopin’s Piano Etude, op. 25, no. 5, commonly known as the “Wrong Note” etude. Nia especially “liked introducing the pieces and seeing everyone’s sweet reactions,” and many of the audience members are excited to hear us perform for them again in the future!
We would like to say many thanks to Rebecca Margolin for coordinating this performance at Goddard. Every aspect of the process is special; as Hannah told me, “Planning, performing, and seeing the audience’s engagement all involve great collaboration.” We all had a lot of fun sharing our love for music with Goddard, we can’t wait until next time!
