Frequently Asked Questions

What types of musicians are involved with Continuo?

We cover a variety of classical genres and instrument groups from strings to winds to vocalists. If you have any suggestions or ideas, we are always looking to broaden our range of musicians.

Some of Continuo’s musicians are freshmen at local high schools while others attend Harvard University, Northeastern University, New England Conservatory, Emory University, and more!

Is Continuo the same as From the Top’s CDAL Program?

Continuo was founded by Center for the Development of Arts Leaders (CDAL) alums who were extremely devastated that the program was put on hiatus. Accordingly, our programs are largely based on CDAL’s programs.

We are a proud recipient of the From the Top Alumni Leadership Grant, but are now otherwise independent from From the Top. We are incredibly grateful to have been associated with the organization that gave us inspiration to engage with our communities in this way.

How much of a commitment is Continuo?

Being a part of Continuo is an incredibly flexible experience! With community performances, you are free to sign up according to your individual availability. We only ask that you stay true to the days and times that you have committed to. With teaching residencies, it is important to attend the sessions that were agreed upon when you applied.

We have many musicians who are involved with all programs, but we also have many who choose to only do what they wish.

How is Continuo funded?

For the past 3 years, Continuo has been funded entirely by ourselves. We are incredibly humbled to have been chosen as a recipient of From the Top’s Alumni Leadership Grant, which has been of great financial help. However, given that we are a nonprofit, we rely entirely on donations and grants; if you are able, we would be extremely appreciative if you donate to our organization here.

How are the Boston and Atlanta branches different?

Continuo was founded in Boston under the name “Greater Boston Music Outreach.” When our co-founders went to college, they brought their GBMO experiences with them on their individual paths, but in 2020, they reunited under the name “Continuo.”

Currently, our Atlanta branch only has teaching residencies and not community performances. We hope to introduce community performances, as well as more partner venues, in the coming year. In addition, we are in the process of expanding our membership base in Atlanta beyond Emory’s campus.

Our original Boston branch has additional opportunities and partners. However, we are always hoping to grow in terms of programming and membership.

How can I get Continuo to perform at the community center or school I work at?

We are always looking for more venues to perform at for our community performances! Please contact us with more details.
